8 year-old boy bangs on black neighbors door with a whip looking for their son

An ⁣8 year-old old boy banged on his black neighbor's door with a whip, supposedly looking for their 13 year-old son. When the black couple confronts the boy's father about his son's behavior, the father pulls a gun on his black neighbors and orders them off his property. What on earth made the black parent think they could have a rational conversation and resolve with his parents, when their son learned that behavior at home? Hopefully it was a wake up call.
