In my opinion, African Americans whose ancestors came here during the Atlantic slave trade have nothing to gain by changing their identity to someone else's of non-African decent or to that of those who originated from non-African nations. Relinquishing their identity is like willfully giving away their historical legacy and rightful place earned here and owed them in this country. This is especially suspect when many are conditioned to quickly claim very racially ambiguous ppl as black while shaming and going out of the way to get unambiguous blacks to deny being black or of African descent.
