Forgiveness does not mean chucking caution and commonsense to the wind. Scripture tells us that. I used to get confused about that because people kept saying it that way as if no matter what someone did you would have to pretend it never happened, which in some cases is dangerous. So I prayed for understanding about it and God led me to a parable where someone had transgressed against their brethren and it showed that the person asked for forgiveness and other examples in scripture where when someone stole they repayed it for example. -so accountability seems to be important. But that also does not mean that you don't use discernment about the persons sincerity, the scripture warns about knowing people by their fruits rather than what they say. So you can also forgive someone without being in a close relationship with them if you see they are not living right or in your spirit you feel they are insincere. Forgiveness is important because we want God to forgive us as well, and it allows us to not be petty amongst ourselves as brethren so we can better focus on working together for our collective progress and safety for exa. There are lots of scriptures on all of this, that's why it warns about the need to rightly divide scripture. Which is done by studying it and having a strong relationship and walk with God first and foremost so you can be guided by His Holy Spirit, as He says to take all your concerns to Him in prayer.
