Mike Tyson is Right Behind You

Few athletes in American history are more interesting than Mike Tyson. He has lived many lives, so we thought it would be fun to ask people walking by our theater what they think about him without knowing that while they talk, Mike Tyson is right behind them. #NBAFinals #GameNight

Message to the black man
Black man
Keep your head up
Keep your head up
All the shit we’ve been through I know you’re fed up
You fed up
These countless types of pressures you ain’t let up
You ain’t let up
This country should be happy we ain’t tear it up

Yeah it’s the truth yall
Truth yall
And for some it’s gonna hurt
It’s gonna hurt
The black man is the king of this earth
King of this earth
The black man did it all first
Analyze go on do your research
They gave us all their worst and we did all against it
Ten toes planted and did it all with no mention
Hard to understand it with all the lies and deception
When you can’t stand the image of your own reflection
But time is a blessing healing all the pain
This message in a bottle yeah that Henny for your brain
Everything that makes you great lies inside of yo veins
Once you place the picture properly inside it’s frame
Now listen to this game and open up your eyes
The vision is simple just focus on our lane and ride
They plotting our demise but still we gonna rise
Focus on our throne fist up in the sky do or die

Message to the black man
Black man
Keep your head up
Keep your head up
All the shit we’ve been through I know you’re fed up
You fed up
These countless types of pressures you ain’t let up
You ain’t let up
This country should be happy we ain’t tear it up

Message to the true and living
I let them know
It’s hard to separate what’s fact from fiction
I know they won’t
You never knew that you the truth that’s hittin
I know they don’t
You better never let ‘em kill your vision
Don’t let it go
I know the world has got you going crazy
Feelin’ psychotic
Pop a perc and have you feeling wavy
Pass the narcotics
They say your masculinity is toxic
You gotta stop it
You want success you gotta feminize it or criminize it
Find your brother go and bust his noggin
And then you vomit
When you really look at it ironic
How much we love everybody but we hate our own
Dumb def and blinded
All we needin’ is the proper knowledge
The proper guidance we got it
See the blick’ll give him powers society never gave him
See to rule is in his cause inside him it’s in his nature
See the Blackman is god defying all the odds
All praise to the Mahdi
Who raised us from the dark

Message to the black man
Black man
Keep your head up
Keep your head up
All the shit we’ve been through I know you’re fed up
You fed up
These countless types of pressures you ain’t let up
You ain’t let up
This country should be happy we ain’t tear it up

Unh Nobody love us
Let us not pretend no
Let us gain our independence and let us not depend
They’ll never stop us now they couldn’t stop us then
This country lucky that we only want equality and not revenge
We need to invest in each other
How much you got to spend
If I needed your help my brother
How much you got to lend
You gotta black business I support you
I’ma buy black
The block I want us to buy back
I’m tryna buy that
Tryin’ not to get shot at in Babylon where the cop at
I need to see an all black Amazon I can shop at
Stop that ‘cause the black man is king black man is god
Any black celebrity quiet that man a fraud speak
‘Cause they wanna leave us with no blessings
I seen blacks get beat peacefully protesting
Leaving the street bleeding with no weapons
Or get Covid treated with no testing
I’m squeezing with no questions

Message to the black man

All the shit we’ve been through I know you’re fed up

These countless types of pressures you ain’t let up

The AFRICAN American Man behind the Year of Return - Repatriation

Diallo Sumbry is the founder and President of the Adinkra Group. He holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of the District of Columbia.
Diallo Sumbry is on a lifelong quest to help people of African descent reconnect with their ancestral heritage while also promoting the property of African citizens.
Whether he is working with or investing in small business owners or leading adventurers through their ancient homeland.

Mr. Sumbry first stepped on the continent of Africa in 1988. His first trip was to Senegal and he hasn’t looked back since. His journey to discovering and exploring more of the continent has also taken him to Mali, Morocco, Guinea, the Gambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Ghana. He’s been doing this long before the ‘Year of Return’ in 2019 when thousands of people of African descent made the trip to Ghana. Sumbry played a key role in the ‘Year of Return’ campaign that marked the 400-year anniversary of the first documented ship of enslaved Africans to arrive in Virginia, USA.

His company, the Adinkra Group, has been responsible for bringing people of African descent to Ghana through what he calls, the ‘Birthright Journey’. He creates curated cultural experiences that are meant for people who have been yearning to make that trip to the motherland.

He has spent several years in Ghana giving back to communities, working on business projects and getting to know the landscape of the country at the ground level. ‘A Smart Ghana Repatriation Guide’ is an honest blend of personal experiences, lessons, and practical tips that provide a timely contribution to the “Back to Africa” renaissance sparked by the Year of Return and now with its decade-long Beyond the Return campaign.

Diallo Sumbry's book, ‘A Smart Ghana Repatriation Guide’ was released on May 19, 2021. The book gives an in-depth look at what it’s really like to move to Ghana. It’s a candid look at the ups and downs as well as the opportunities for success in the country. He leaves no stone unturned in the book which includes contributions from others who have also repatriated to Ghana.

Sumbry says that his book offers a virtual experience as you read each chapter and use the scannable QR codes that are embedded in the text of the book. He wanted to do this so that the book can come to life in a new and inspiring way.

No auto-tune necessary... El DeBarge: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
11 Views · 25 days ago

NPR Music's Tiny Desk series will celebrate Black History Month with Tiny Desk (home) concerts featuring legends in the world of R&B, jazz, gospel, and hip hop. Each artist in this legacy lineup has helped to define Black music as we know it and will be performing a Tiny Desk concert for the first time.

Bobby Carter | February 4, 2022
Around this time last year, singer-songwriter and R&B royalty El DeBarge took to Instagram to take some requests and play a few hits. "I'd never done anything like that before, and the nerves were showing," he told me. That 23-minute live performance ignited a comeback of sorts, and the greats of today, many of whom he's influenced, wanted to be near him. That video reminded us of his greatness, and stars like Alicia Keys, Fat Joe, and Questlove helped make 2021 a busy year for the torchbearer of the DeBarge moniker. For his Tiny Desk (home) concert, he didn't want to veer far away from what he did on IG, and I quickly concurred. He got together with guitarist, Bennett Walker to play this intimate set of DeBarge classics.

In terms of sheer talent alone, the DeBarge family was arguably on par with the Jacksons at one point. That talent propelled them to the stars in the 1970s and '80s, cranking out hit records and cookout classics. Switch, featuring siblings Bobby and Tommy DeBarge, came first. A couple of years later, the group DeBarge arrived, consisting of siblings James, Bunny, Mark, Randy, and El. Their five albums and El's solo work were a massive part of Motown's success and helped sustain the label in the '80s.

Despite the well-documented odds he's faced over the years, this set feels like a triumph. His voice has aged with grace, and that signature falsetto we've all attempted while singing these songs is perfection here. From his cozy home studio, the Michigan native breezes through a few of his R&B standards, including "All This Love," "Time Will Reveal," "Love Me In A Special Way," and in honor of Black History Month, he reworks "A Dream" as a dedication to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In Part 1, "I Gave UP on The American Dream | The American Dream is a Nightmare," I share the Historical, Cultural, Socio-Economic, Racial Inequalities, and Geopolitical Perspectives of The American Dream. I also introduce two new characters The Ancestors & Your Consciousness.

In his video, Milton Craft shares Malcolm X’s quote, "The American Dream is a Nightmare." After listening to a video by Timothy Ward, I felt a rant RiSE UP in my spirit. I opted out of the American Dream in 1995 but like a bad toxic abusive relationship, America kept sucking me back in. My only regret is that I didn't truly quite the American Dream much sooner!

In 1995, I opted out of the American Dream. I would go back & forth on the dream.
Re-entering the nightmare throughout the years. In 2019, I gave up for good or so I thought. I tried one more time to achieve the dream…because I am not a quitter. I don’t give up, especially without a fight. My regret is that I didn’t quit & break up with the dream sooner. Like a bad breakup or a hostile abusive relationship, America & the American Dream kept sucking the life out of me and sucking me back in. But what’s a strong black woman to do?
I must confess
I AM Tired
I Quit
I Give Up
And you should too
For many black folks living in the US, the American Dream is nothing more than an illusion and nightmare lived in our waking hours. If Morpheus hasn’t shown up yet to give you a choice between the red or the blue pill, let this be your wake-up call.

Ian Bremmer, author of "Us vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism," argues If you are part of the working Middle class, your life has not improved in the last 40 years. We have taken hundreds of millions of people out of poverty around the world over the course of the past decades. The rise of capitalistic markets & the success of governments have come due to open borders and free trade agreements like NAFTA. You have lost a lot of opportunities in the west. The US has created much greater structural inequality. Your life has not improved in the last 40 years. You feel like the American Dream no longer applies to you.

The US economy is growing but the trickle-down is not trickling down to the middle class and working poor. The 1% and rich are continuing to gain. The rich own the majority of farmland & businesses while small businesses are underfunded and stifled.

Breaking up with the American Dream Is not easy. You can choose to give up on the American Dream & opt-out of this illusionist capitalistic invented nightmare just like I did. You can choose to have your own dream. You can choose a dream not based on society, marketing, capitalism, or cultural indoctrination but Instead Craft the Life you desire.

Dr.Frances Cress Welsing,(1935-2016) was a psychiatrist best known for writing The Isis Papers, was born Frances Luella Cress in Chicago, Illinois, on March 18, 1935. Bringing people to Africa is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. For me, it has everything to do with exposure. Whether someone descends from Africa or not, the exposure to the continent makes all of the difference. The first hand experience with the cultures, the people and the history enlightens in a way a book or video can’t do.
